Tour Dates: 16th August to 6th September 2010 (21 Days)
The Simpson Desert – just the name conjures thoughts of remoteness, isolation, rugged conditions and challenges. We will follow part of the tracks of our pioneer explorers in Ted Colson, Cecil Madigan and Reg Sprigg.
Starting at Thargomindah, we will spend 21 days weaving our way across this part of Australia as we endeavor to do a section of each track in the Simpson Desert.
On our first leg we will travel down to Camerons’ Corner, head to Innamincka via the Bore track, make our way to the Warburton Crossing and then join up with the K1 line onto Poeppel Corner.
The next few days will be spent traversing across the Desert doing parts of the Knolls Track, the WAA Line, the Frabena Track and the Rig Road before visiting Purni Bore and Dalhousie and we will stop off to see the Loan Gum Tree along the way.
From Dalhousie we will make our way up to Mt Dare for a stock up of supplies before once again continuing onto the next section of this great Desert.
After visiting Old Andado we will join up with the Madigan Line, head down the Colson Track onto the French Track before ending up back at Poeppels Corner.
From Poeppels we will embark on the last leg of the tour heading on up the Hay River track to camp 16 before once again joining the Madigan line and travelling to camp 20 where we will follow Eyre Creek until we meet the QAA Line and make our way into Birdsville.
As you can see, this adventure is not for the faint-hearted. If the mystery and the isolation of the Desert appeals to you then book now to secure your spot on a Desert crossing to remember.
