 We will explore a wide range of topics such as:

·                    The information contained in maps;

·                    Map construction and scale;

·                    Contours and other representation of topography;

·                    Grid references and geographic co-ordinates;

·                    Direction finding;

·                    Map orientation;

·                    Locating your position;

·                    Route planning and Navigation; and

·                    Understanding GPS.

 You will get plenty of hands-on practice with GPS, compass and protractors. The course will consist of two 3-hour sessions held at night over two weeks, followed by a full day of practical map reading and navigation.

         Bring:              We will provide everything you need, however, you are welcome to bring any personal map reading         tools such as GPS  and compass. You will need your 4WD for the practical session.
