NEW YEAR TOUR 2006.

Text Box:

Looking for something to do for Easter? Why not join us as we trace the Queensland Week-Enders Tour of the Outback.

On this 7 day tour we will meet at Charleville and then make our way out into the remote areas of western Queensland for some good old country style hospitality.

Over the next 7 days we will retrace the footsteps of one of the most famous cattle families “The Durack’s” who not only founded the cattle industry in Outback Queensland but were also instrumental in introducing cattle to the Northern Territory and the Kimberley. We will also visit several of the cattle areas of the Barkley Tablelands before heading to the lovely Lawn Hill for a day of R&R.

We start at Charleville and make our way out to the tiny little town of Adavale, where the hotel was once owned by the Durack’s along with many of the surrounding proprieties. From Adavale we pass through the Durack’s first property at “Thylungra” before make our first night camp at Windorah.

Leaving Windorah, we travel the River Road to Jundah. After a brief stop, we head to the tiny township of Stonehenge continuing onto our next nights camp at “Warbreccan Station” where we will meet our hosts for the night Paul & Chris. This stay is old fashion country hospitality at its very best.

Day three, and it’s goodbye to Paul & Chris, as we start to make our way into the remote Diamantina National Park.  We leave Warbreccan and travel north before meeting up with the Mane River passing Mt Windsor and the Kangaroo Mountains and then entering the National Park and our camp on the Diamantina Lakes. After our nights stop in the Diamantina, we begin our trek to the famous outback town of Boulia, where we visit the centre of the “Min Min Lights”. From Boulia, we will travel up to Chatsworth and The Monument passing the huge Phosphate Hill mine. After a brief look at the mine, we then head for our next night camp at the hotel at Dajarra where we will catch up with our old mate Ted the dog, whom I sure every-one will fall in love with as Ted is Dajarra’s local identity.

Day five see us on the road again as we start making our way to the lovely Lawn Hill. From Dajarra, we travel to the mining town of Mt Isa where, after a short stop, we are on the road again and making our way out to Riversleigh and onto our camp site at Adel’s Grove.

Day Six is a complete day of R&R. This will give you the chance to relax and enjoy the spectacular Lawn Hill National Park. The day is yours so you can walk the Gorge or take a lazy canoe ride up the picturesque Lawn Hill Creek.

All too soon our final day has arrived as we start our homeward journey. We leave the lovely Lawn Hill and make our way out to Gregory Downs. From here we will travel the Wills Developmental Road to the Burke & Wills roadhouse and then onto to Cloncurry where sadly it is time to bid farewell to our tour as we start our journey back home.
